NHL Lobby

The National Lutheran Home and Village Lobby Renovation project was designed by RLPS Architects of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. By renovating the main lobby area, we provided a more open and inviting entry experience for residents, employees and visitors. Continuing our 27-year relationship with the National Lutheran Home, we were committed to meet the condensed timeframe demands of this project. All work was required to be completed between scheduled public events allowing only 6 weeks to finish the project. To meet this demanding schedule, we worked numerous 24 hour shifts.

The existing lobby was an open area, dated back to the building’s original construction in 1979. Because the lobby serves as the main entrance to the entire facility for visitors and the home’s 420 employees, construction on the project was challenging. Accommodations also had to be made for emergency personnel, as the lobby serves as their main access point. In addition, all low-voltage systems (fire alarms, intercoms, nurse call, phones) were required to remain operational during the project, as well as a functioning front desk to accommodate ongoing receptionist duties.

Our renovation included complete removal of all existing trim, flooring, ceilings and wall finishes. Necessary provision of new metal stud framing, drywall and extensive millwork/wood trim were also completed. Building system electrical, mechanical, plumbing and fireproofing upgrades brought the home to safety compliance.

The reinvented lobby area now serves as a source of community pride welcoming residents, employees and guests.
